Swae is a software platform providing tools to help groups make collective decisions and govern together without reliance on managers and centralized decision-makers.

Swae already has a mobile app in beta testing with clients world wide but had asked our team to take on a fresh perspective and see how we could improve their platform. The main takeaways during our client kick off meeting was to incorporate anonymity, secure login and to incorporate some sort of user voting/polling system.
Process

It was also stressed that the end product was not to be a widget, but rather a tool because they had felt that the platform would be too complex to be a mere add-on to an existing system.
Our research revealed that:
- The target demographic almost always preferred using desktops
- It was hard to go through the entire survey because users felt that the flow was very long and there was no auto-save feature
- Users needed to be able to trust other users who were commenting/giving feedback on their proposals
From a user’s perspective, the top three opportunities we found were:
- How can we make it easier for users to fill out the initial survey?
- How can we build trust within the community while keeping a level of anonymity?
- How can we incorporate social validation to build on the initial proposal?
Challenges
The biggest challenge for me was the fact that the project had a very wide scope in terms of potential users. It was a challenge to focus only on the MVP because there were so many factors from the student and teacher perspective that we had to address, even if we did not build it out.
Additional considerations:
- 3 week time frame
- First time doing a handoff with our UI team
Outcomes
- Was able to provide insightful research in validating and challenging initial findings from our clients
- Created a solid user flow for creating initial business pitches
- Optimized the idea generation process
Our client was incredibly happy with what we were able to accomplish and took our findings to develop them further.
They were punctual on milestones and very professional in their dialogue. I enjoyed working with them and they added a lot of value to our technology build.
